| Friendly Bacteria Acidophilus is a powdered form of friendly bacteria call lactobacillus. Helpful for dogs whose intestines have been stressed by sickness or antibiotics, the lactobacillus bacteria suppress the growth of undesirable bacteria and promote the growth of the good guys". They help dogs digest food better, especially important for seniors who produce fewer digestive enzymes. Acidophilus also helps dogs with gas, and some users praise it for hot spots and cracked skin around the nose and mouth. Give one-quarter to one-half teaspoon twice a week. You can also find acidophilus in naturally cultured yogurt. Just add a teaspoon to each of your dog's meals. |
